We are pleased to announce the end of our search for a new church organist/accompanist with the appointment of Dr. Anthony Philip Pattin to the position. Dr. Pattin has returned to the Toledo area where he was born and raised, following his recent retirement, after 24 years, as professor of music at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama. His most recent positions were as the Director of Music at the Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church, and the pianist/organist at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, both in Birmingham, Alabama.

Tony received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Toledo, Master of Music Degree from University of Michigan, and Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Alabama. He also has extensive experience as a piano recitalist, orchestral soloist in concerto performances, accompanist, and chamber musician. Two concert tours of Japan (2006/2009) recitals in Paris, France (2006), three solo piano recitals in New York City- Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (2006/1998), Merkin Concert Hall at Lincoln Center (2002) Adjudicator, piano soloist, concerto soloist with MostArts Music Festival and Piano Competition at Alfred University (Summer, 2016/2015/2014) Performer in PianoTexas Music Festival held at Texas Christian University (various summers). Seven professional, commercial CD recordings. He is also a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA); and the American Guild of Organists (AGO).

Dr. Pattin has indicated his pleasure with the Roger’s organ and Steinway piano in First St. John’s sanctuary. In addition, he says that he enjoys the liturgical music of the Lutheran church, which is used at our first Sunday worship service, (even though the 7:45 a.m. is a bit early) but appreciates the contrast with the more contempory music of the second worship service.

We have certainly enjoyed Dr. Tony’s musical contributions to our worship services these past Sundays and on Christmas Eve. We look forward to his partnership in music and ministry as he formally begins his position on January 5. Please take the opportunity to warmly welcome him when you see him at church.
